When this type of incident occurs, the best course of action is swift and decisive action.Your goal is three-fold; remove the video or make it private, remove or reduce the damage caused by the video, and then educate your child on how to evaluate the appropriateness and safety of videos before they are uploaded.Making a Private VideoIf your only concern about a video is that it shares too much personal information to be publicly viewable, you have two options: you can have your child make it private or make it unlisted.
Videos uploaded to YouTube are by default set to public, but when uploading a video and filling out information about the video, there is a section called Broadcasting and Sharing Options. It is under this section that the options for private and unlisted are found.Making a video private limits access so only your child and up to 50 other people who they invite (discuss with them who they are allowed to invite) will be able to see the video.
When a video is set to private, the video does not appear on your childs video channel, in search results, or in playlists.Heres how your child can make their video private, and share it with selected individuals: Have them Sign in to their YouTube account and click the Account link located (at the top-right of any page) Next, they need to click the Uploaded Videos link, click to choose the video they need to make private, then click the Edit button. Under the Broadcasting and Sharing Options section (on the left-hand side of the page towards the bottom) your child will see the Privacy options.
If they dont see the options, have them click the little black arrow / triangle to expand the section. Here they can set the video to Private, and they will see a section where they can to enter up to 50 YouTube usernames that will have access to the private video. (Note, viewers must have a YouTube account.)Make a Video UnlistedMaking a video unlisted means that only people who know the link to the video can view it (such as friends or family to whom you send the link).
Unlisted videos do not appear in YouTube search results, your childs channel, or on the Browse page. The key differences between unlisted and private videos are: Viewers do not need a YouTube account to watch the video. Anyone who gets the link can view it which is helpful if you want to share it with people who are unlikely to have a YouTube account. There is no limit to the number of people you or your child can share the link with.
While this point has clear advantages, it also means anyone who gets the link can share the link with others. This means the video can spread quickly and the whole intent of limiting access can be lost.Remove a Video from YoutubeSometimes, the video content dictates that the video should be removed, not merely set to private. Only the person who posted a video can remove the video, but other options for removing a video are also covered. If your child uploaded the video they can: Sign in and click their username in the upper-right corner of any YouTube page In the drop-down menu, click My Videos Select the box next to the video(s) that they want to remove Then, click the Actions button at the top of the page and select Delete from the drop-down menu.Understand that as soon as your child or teen deletes a video, it will be unavailable for viewing, but it may take time for YouTubes video search results for the video and thumbnail images to disappear from the site.If someone else uploaded the video you can: If you know who posted the video, ask the person to remove it.
If the poster is a friend of your child or teen, this should be a relatively easy request and process. They simply follow the steps above to remove the video. Once theyve edited out sections that you felt were inappropriate or exposed too much information, they can repost the video if they choose. If you dont know who posted the video, leave a comment on the video asking that it be removed. If the poster uploaded the image innocently, they should quickly take it down.
If however they posted the video with malicious intent, this isnt likely to be a viable option. If the poster maliciously posted the video, use YouTubes Flag functionality.
YouTube has clear community guidelines to monitor content hosted on their service. You can flag inappropriate videos by clicking on the flag button underneath every video and reporting the issue to YouTube instantly.Once you click the flag, a dropdown menu appears allowing you to select the reason that most closely matches your reason for reporting the video.
Some reasons have subcategories to help you further refine the issue.Once the offending video has been removed, you may need to take no further steps. However, iKathleen Kerridges family food budget is ?40 per week to feed five people.

Microsoft has done an excellent job of combining small file size and very good temporal quality. The format isnt necessarily good for iOS devices, but if you can manage to get your projects on YouTube, you will be able to deliver everywhere.
And thats a plus, in my opinion. Last year, YouTube reported that users were uploading 48hours of video to the service everyminute. Thats over 69,000 hours ofvideo a day, every day. Petabytes of video, every day (a petabyte is a milliongigabytes). The only way this i need cvideo bit not xvideo is because YouTube compresses all thatvideo during upload.
But you arent dealing in petabytes of video so why doesthis matter to you? Most of us already use or are beginning to use video in our eLearning. If youre in the most of us category, you are compressing your i need cvideo bit not xvideo whetheryou know it or not. Some of us can use our own servers for video rather thanYouTubes or Vimeos or some other video service, but we all have file-sizelimitations and bandwidth issues. How you compress your video and what form you compress it tomakes a difference.
But what do we know about compressing video except to usethe Adobe Media Encoder or a standalone program like Sorenson Squeeze (or DivX,Microsoft, Apple, etc.) and several other video compressors? Does the file typeyou create matter? Yes. Does the file size matter?
Yes. Lets talk about filesize first. What affects file size?Any timeline-based project (Figure 1) must be compressed inorder to put it on YouTube, Vimeo, your servers, or wherever you need to storeand access it. Furthermore, while you can stream an uncompressed video file(.
avi), its not easy. The bandwidth requirements are such that your ITdepartment will not have anything nice to say about it.Figure 1: Timeline sampleThe video you upload to YouTube gets compressed the wayYouTube wants to compress it, no matter how you compressed it originally.Although the server sizes seemingly approach infinity at YouTube, when it comesto uploading, the only worry about file size is how long it might take toupload a large file.
Its the streaming part that matters. YouTube, and a fewof the other video services, also automatically deliver different video codecsto different platforms like iOS or Windows. If youre delivering to multipleplatforms, its worth a look.Video file size depends on many variables: HD (HighDefinition) vs.
SD (Standard Definition), frame rate, color depth, even theamount of movement in the video. There are three measurements that count for alot in determining the final file size.First, the actual pixel dimensions of the finished product. (Figure2) Standard video (SD) is generally 720 X 480 pixelsthat equals 345,600 totalpixels per frame.
If you can do native HD video, the dimensions are 1,920 X 1,080,which equals 2,073,600 pixels. Thats a lot more pixels per frame to stream.Figure 2: Standard video frame size (blue center area) vs.native HD video frame size (green outer area)The second measurement is the length of the video.
When anythingchanges on the video timeline youre creating, the file size changes after yourender your video. Change something else on your timeline and the resultingfile size changes again. And so on.The third measurement is frame rate. Most of the video we dois about 30 frames per second (fps). If you cut the number of frames in half, the video file size will be cut in half. There are more variables, though. Here are some of them, including the three just mentioned: Pixel dimensions Frame rate(15, 24, 25, 30 or whatever) How frequent are your key frames (the frame where the entire frame is recorded) Progressive or interlaced frames Constant or variable bitrate streaming Buffer size Audio sample rate Render qualityTheres even more, if you want to dig into it.
No wondervideo quality can be so variable and its very confusing to finish your videoin order to stream it. An explanation of containers and codecsWhen it comes to your rendered video, there are two kinds ofsoftware that are in play. The first is the development environment or format. This is a container that the server sends to the browser. The viewers browserneeds to have the correct decoder add-on installed in order for viewers to seethe video.
There are several of these containers, but most of the time we usethe Flash (. flv or. swf), QuickTime (. mov), or Windows Media Video (. wmv)containers. To be sure, there are more, but Im going to keep this explanationsimple to keep the complexity down. The second part of a video is the codec inside the format.
A codec consists two partsthe encoder, which is what you use while youre encoding the video from your timeline orfile. The second part is the decoder; this part resides on the viewerscomputer as an add-in to decode the video inside the container. The codec is whatactually encodes and compresses the video when youre rendering it.A very common codec is H.264.

Policies Product Blog Contact Us Archive YouTube is the most popular site on the Internet for uploading your personal and professional videos for the world to watch. With so many people browsing through endless amounts of videos and having access to whatever content youve uploaded, its important to know what privacy settings YouTube offers its users and how they can use them to protect their material. Here are six things to keep in mind about YouTubes privacy settings when you sign up for an account and upload videos to it.
Theyll help you protect your identity and keep up a positive online profile. With more than 1 billion unique users and more than 6 billion hours of video watched each month on YouTube, there's no telling what to expect.
It's best to protect yourself and adjust your privacy settings. Its tempting to showcase your videos to the world, especially if you have something unique, odd, or funny that you think will attract peoples' attention.
After all, YouTube is responsible for making random videos worldwide hits. As intriguing as this sounds, its best to keep a lot of your videos set to private so only a select group of people (up to 50) can view them. This is especially important if youre a professional and need to uphold a reputation. If you want to set your videos to private, follow these easy steps: Visit your Video Manager Find the video youd like to set to private and click the Edit button In the Privacy Settings drop-down menu, select Private Click Save Changes2.
Set Videos to Unlisted If you want to showcase your video to more than just a select 50 people, but dont want the video listed to everyone in public, then youll want to set your videos to unlisted. What this means is that anyone with the direct web address can watch the video, but without this address the videos are impossible to find.
They dont show up on your YouTube channel, in search results, or anywhere else on the site.If you want to set your videos to unlisted, follow these easy steps: Visit your Video Manager Find the video youd like to set to private and click the Edit button In the Privacy Settings drop-down menu, select Unlisted Click Save Changes3. Adjust Account Privacy Settings YouTube is an interactive website, and your videos arent the only thing you need to protect from the prying eyes of the public.
Whether its liking videos, subscribing to them, or your contacts sending you messages and sharing your videos, its important to stay proactive in making sure you know who can track what you like and watch. If you want to set your account privacy settings, follow these easy steps: Click on your avatar and select YouTube Settings On the next screen, click on Privacy at the top leftOn this screen youre able to set up and check your account privacy settings.
Under Likes and Subscriptions, you can check the box to make sure any videos you like and any channels you subscribe to stay private and confidential. Under Search and Contacts, you can control who can contact you, share your videos, and find you by email address. 4. Edit Account Profile Whether someone is on their mobile device, tablet, laptop, or desktop computer, people have access to your personal information if you share too much or dont protect it. When filling out details including your name, age, company, interests, and uploading a profile picture, remember to only divulge information that cant be used against you.
Also, make sure that your cable internet service is protected by passwords so spyware cannot gain this information.Leave email addresses and phone numbers out of these sections to avoid spam. If you dont want to show any information, simply leave the fields blank (YouTube doesnt make it mandatory to offer information on your public profile).
5. Control Channel Activity If you choose to keep your videos and content public, then you may attract people who dont agree with what youre posting and may spew insults and span your YouTube channel. Its important to stay proactive in previewing and approving comments, video responses, and ratings if you want your channel cleanand free from negativity. This prevents unsuitable comments from being published and deters posters from accessing your channel and doing it again. If you want to disable or preview and approve comments, follow these easy steps: Visit your Video Manager Find the video youd like to edit and click the Edit button Click Advanced Settings Adjust your preferences under the Comments and Responses tab Click Save ChangesIf you selected to preview and approve comments, continue: Under Allow Comments and Allow Video Responses select Approved Click your Username in the iTunes iTunes is the world's easiest way to organize and add to your digital media collection. We are unable to find iTunes on your computer.

Digital video file format wouldnt necessarily be the first thing that comes to mind upon hearing the word. But thats what it happens to be.Matroska is a made-up word, intended to evoke the notion of the famous Russian Matryoshka nesting dolls.
That name is well suited for the purpose of this innovative format. In filename extension jargon, Matroska is known as MKV or .mkv. Its an open standard, meaning free for use and development by whomever for whatever, without the usual licensing and financial hurdles that can come with proprietary software.Matroska wants MKV to become THE standard for multimedia container formats.
Happily, it has the technical characteristics to deliver on that ambition. One of its most compelling characteristics is the ability to hold a virtually unlimited amount of data, in multiple streams comprising video, audio, menus, subtitles, chapter points, other metadata, and even stereoscopic (3D) content. This enables MKV files to carry the same kinds of multi-stream content as DVDs and Blu-ray discs.
Not only can there be multiple streams of video, but several languages can be included in different sound tracks, even more languages in subtitle streams, plus chapters, and menus.
No other file format can do that. This makes MKV a popular choice for making back-ups of DVD and Blu-ray discs that you could also play on a computer connected to a TV. MKV is also delivering high-definition (HD) video on the Internet. Most sites that offer this seem to either be pay-per-view or subscription based, or sites that require registering. Finding sites that specifically offer the ability to download a video in a MKV format is a challenge. You can try searching OVGuides MKV offerings, but the content is a mixed bag.
Some listings are for paid services, while others can be viewed, but not downloaded. There are sites that claim to offer free movies in the MKV format. But beware, these are likely copies ripped from commercial DVDs or Blu-ray discs, which is considered pirating and its illegal. One of the most popular content areas where MKVs multiple stream features are currently being used is in the world of Anime.
Here, dual audio tracks and fansub (subtitles in different languages created by individual fans) translation tracks are used. The fansubs are also soft meaning they can be turned on and off, much as the audio language tracks can be switched.MKV has definitely found a niche there. PLAYING .MKV FILEAlthough RealPlayer does not have native (built-in) support for playing Matroska, by adding a special codec pack from the Combined Community Codec Pack ( CCCP) you can play these files.
It is freely available to download and install on your computer. With CCCP, RealPlayer will indeed read, decode and play MKV files perfectly. FINDING A .MKV CONVERTERUnfortunately, at this writing, although RealPlayer does play MKV files, it is not able to convert them. It also lacks the ability to place MKV files in the RealPlayer Library. This should only a temporary situation, as the popularity and use of MKV expands. So, youll need to find a video file format converter that can do the job if you want to do something other than just watch MKV videos.
We recently wrote a post about video file converters that might help you find a dedicated video format converter that works best for you. CONVERTING TO OR FROM MKV FILES MATTERSThe process itself is similar for all converters. Aside from the range of inputs, outputs and devices, there are differences in user interfaces.
Workflow is fairly common among them all. Whats significant when converting MKV is the direction youre going to or from. Its easy converting another format to MVK. Since MKV can handle virtually an unlimited number and types of streams; it can accept all the content from any other format without trouble.
But if the conversion is from a MKV file containing multiple streams of content to another format, its a different story. The other formats just arent designed to handle all the different streams of information the way they can be stored in the MKV container.
Remember the multiple streams of video and audio, subtitles, metadata, menus and chapter information that can be included in the MKV format? Well, most all of those extras are likely to be lost going from MVK to another format or device. This wont be a concern for the vast majority of basic video and audio content because its likely youThat may seem like a strange title for a post coming from a guy who owns a creative agency that will produce well over 100 videos for clients in 2016.
Youd think my job would be to convince people that they need a video to take their company (and mine) to the next level. I used to do that. I never do that anymore. When someone comes to me asking for a video Im careful to let them know the three things they need before they are ready to ever think about making a video. Heres what I say: I was shocked when I first started my business that most people wanting a corporate video or commercial had no idea what story they actually wanted to tell.
Video is simply one way to tell a story its a medium. How can you know if you need a video if you dont know what story you are trying to tell? It became evident quickly that for my company to really serve our clients best interests, the first thing we had to do was help them discover and tell their own story.
In taking this approach, sometimes we actually lose short-term revenue. We talk clients out of spending money on videos or anything else until they can tell use their own story.
Of course, sometimes it means that people who come to use thinking they need one video realize that they need a lot more. Some of the best videos my company made for our clients in our first two years have only been seen by a few dozen people. The story was there. My team (almost always) kills it on the creative side. So the quality is great. But nobody is watching it because there is no strategy to get people to view it. Or people are watching it, but nobody is taking action.
It became clear to us that to be a company that people want to work with we have to not only be storytellers but strategic consultants.
Success for us cant be a good video it has to be people taking a desired action based on a good story. Thats what needs to be measured. Our favorite clients are often smaller companies (under $10M) at a place where they are ready to grow or ready to change.
I love my job because I love the people and businesses we serve. We become true creative partners who understand the mission, values and strategies of our clients. Three of our clients have given me honorary titles within their company so that they can express the level of involvement I have with them when introducing me to others. I love that! But we only got there by refusing to just make them a video. Thats how all those partnership started with a request for one video.
Now we make dozens of videos for them but we also serve them in every other creative way from high level consulting to graphic design to web development to even planning their monthly staff meetings. Were partners often friends. Its way better than being the stranger who makes a corporate video for them once each year. This may all sound rather high level and philosophical. I mean, it sounds nice, but does it really work?
Well, my company is less than four years old. Our staff has grown over 100 percent in 18 months. And most evidently, almost all of our new clients are coming to us directly from our current clients. I can point to the day we made these adjustments as the day we started to grow. So if you need a video, there are thousands of places you can go. Price them out and pick one. But if you need a story, a strategy and a creative partner maybe we should talk. Thats where the magic is. Despite their best intentions, sometimes kids and teens place videos on YouTube that arent in their best interest, arent in the best interest of others, show criminal activities, or just expose too much personal information.
(Note, viewers must have a YouTube account.)Make a Video UnlistedMaking a video unlisted means that only people who know the link to i need cvideo bit not xvideo video can view it (such as friends or family to whom you send the link).
However, iThe best codec to keep file sizes small is Windows Media (.wmv).
The only way this works is because YouTube compresses all thatvideo during upload.
But you arent dealing in petabytes of video so why doesthis matter to you? Most of us already use or are beginning to use video in our eLearning. If youre in the most of us category, you are compressing your video whetheryou know it or not.

This wont be a concern for the vast majority of basic video and audio content because its likely youAbout Us Learn more about our story and our inspiration behind Mic.
If you want to disable or preview and approve comments, follow these easy steps: Visit your Video Manager Find the video youd like to edit and click the Edit button Click Advanced Settings Adjust your preferences under the Comments and Responses tab Click Save ChangesIf you selected to preview and approve comments, continue: Under Allow Comments and Allow Video Responses select Approved Click your Username in the Top Categories CNET 100 Appliances Audio Cameras Cars Desktops Drones Headphones Laptops Networking Phones Printers Smart Home Software Tablets TVs Virtual Reality Wearable Tech Web Hosting Forums Popular Forums Computer Help Computer Newbies Laptops Phones TVs & Home Theaters Networking & Wireless Windows 7 Windows 10 Cameras All Forums Top Categories Apple Byte Carfection CNET Top 5 CNET Update Googlicious How To Netpicks Next Big Thing News On Cars Phones Prizefight Tablets Tomorrow Daily CNET Podcasts Top Categories Cheapskate Best Tech Under $50 All Deals Tech Deals Non-Tech Deals Audio Deals Cell Phone Deals Desktop Deals Laptop Deals Hard Drive & Storage Deals Printer Deals Tablet Deals Camera Deals Monitor Deals Software Deals TV Deals Web Hosting VPN Services WordPress Hosting Domain Names T-Mobile's video free-for-all: Everything you need to know about Binge On (FAQ)The nation's third-largest wireless carrier says you can stream videos to your phone without eating up your data allotment.
